3dsmax 2019 manager can't be found.

We have two new machines in the office, intel i9.
Only that two machines have some RPManager problems, sometimes, finding the manager. It's strange because other older machines work like a charm.
And like I said before its not always, but even restarting MAX sometimes is not enough. can't figure out why that happens.

error message: ( Manager search supplied is invalid )
we tried by name and also IP. no luck.
and of course we have access to that manager pc and we can see it in the network.

rebooting the machine makes it usable again but for some time only.

What could be the cause?

I tried giving permissions to the RPM script folder inside Max but nothing changed.
Any other suggestion we could try?

I get this error sometimes too without an clear reason, rebooting max fixes it.

It does sound like it could be permissions - you say you have given permissions to the script directory, can you try for the entire 3dsmax structure?

Also by default RPM uses the system defined temp directory but this can be controlled, and some have found it more reliable to do so - try editing RenderPassManager.ini in the rpm script dir and add something like this pointing to a new directory you have created:

[NetworkSubmit]
TempDir=C:/temp/

and see how that goes, ideally it'll sort out the failed xml writing.

just a bit of update.

still strugling with this, sometimes just happens... rebooting fix it. :S

All these years later we're still struggling with this problem intermittently.

One clue would be the double slashes after "mytemp" which would be ignored by windows
"C://mytemp//makeXMLtemp.txt"

Is there any definitive solution or known cause to this issue?

The TempDir solution fixes most cases - but also make sure, you don't use any non-standard letters or symbols. English alphabet only, underscores instead of hyphens and keep your pass/file names short.
I'm from denmark, so we frequently get the odd "Æ, Ø, Å" from the danish alphabet, that has snuck into a pass name - and the jobs will fail.
Usually the perpetrator will have to supply rigorous amounts of cake for the entire office.
